Consorci Leader de Desenvolupament Rural del Camp (anteriorment Consorci Leader Priorat - Baix Camp i Consorci de Desenvolupament Alt Camp, Conca de Barberà i Anoia)

The territory

The Consorci Leader de Desenvolupament Rural del Camp works in the regions of Alt Camp, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Baix Camp. It also comprises three municipalities from Baix Penedès region and four from Tarragonès.

Its landscape is characterised by a great diversity, shaped by the contrast between the flat areas and the mountains that surround them. The forest area is large in the region, although the territory is mainly agrarian, especially covered by cereals, vineyards and olive trees.

The natural and cultural heritage has special relevance. In this sense, the areas declared spaces of natural interest stand out. And regarding the cultural heritage, it is needed to mention the Priorat region application as a cultural landscape for the UNESCO World Heritage list with the candidature “Priorat-Montsant-Siurana, Mediterranean mountain agricultural landscape”.

The area has an important transport network that guarantees the communication with the rest of Catalonia, Spain and Europe. Moreover, the presence of the high-speed train and Reus airport, generate economic attraction, since they stimulate the arrival of new investments, especially in the productive field.

The strategy

The strategy in Camp is based on the development of an agrocultural territory. This means
a set of actions that must allow the improvement of the competitiveness of the companies
of the region, especially those connected with the agrifood industry and local products, the generation of employment and the enhancement of the link of these products with the landscape heritage, the natural resources and the cultural heritage.

Thus, the goals set by the Consortium are focused on three core ideas. First, it is going to work in the increase of the competitiveness of the agrifood industry and the local products, by promoting the innovation and the interrelation with the natural and cultural landscape and strengthening the bonds with the tourist sector. In this sense, investment to improve the quality of products and innovation will be promoted, as well as actions addressed to optimise the commercialisation strategies and that imply strengthening the bonds between local products and other sectors, such as the tourist sector.

Secondly, Consortium is willing to work in highlighting the landscape heritage, together with its connection with the local product and the tourist strategy. Regarding this point, the enhancement of the natural resources will be promoted, their sustainable exploitation, and generally all those actions that contribute to the mitigation of climate change.

Finally, entrepreneurship will be promoted, through the development of support structures to motivate self-employment especially among youth and women and on fields like agrifood, tourism and artisan sectors. Several actions are proposed here, among which the promotion of business incubators or the research for new methods of business cooperation stand out.

Together with these three core ideas, there are cross-cutting actions, such as the access and use of ICT, the promotion of cooperativism and the cooperation between sectors, as well as the territorial cooperation in all the strategic fields previously mentioned.

Cooperation interests

  • Entrepreneurship, promotion and research of local products
  • Activities related to the landscape
  • Climate change, energy efficiency and natural parks
  • Retention of youth and promotion of talent
  • Women and actions that ensure non-discrimination in access to the labour market
  • New actions to suppor cooperativism and promotion of small production
